SLiCE, located in the LSC, is hosting the annual Cans Around the Oval food drive. This year marks the 30th year for the program. CSU students, staff partners, faculty, local media and business join together to help fight food insecurity in Larimer county by collecting donations for the Food Bank of Larimer County.
Since its inception 30 years ago the CSU tradition has grown to the county’s largest single-day food drive. The event will have its kick off on September 7, 2016 at 9 a.m. in the ASCSU Senate Chambers. Anyone interested in participating in the event should be present in tduring the kicoff so they can begin collecting their materials and canvasing for donations as soon as possible! On Oct. 5 Canstruction will begin on the Plaza outside the LSC. The collection day for Cans Around the Oval will be October 12, 2016 on the historic CSU oval.
This CSU tradition helped raise around 60,364 pounds of food last year! In the previous year the Ram family donated over $57,030 for Cans Around the Oval. That means in one year Rams created a total impact of 345,514 pounds of food for the Food Bank in 2015! This includes fresh produce, bread, meats and eggs, cheese and dairy products as well as non-perishable items. Within the past 30 years the program has had a tremendous impact on the Larimer County Food Bank.
