City of Loveland Open Lands and Trails’ Earth Day Planting Project

May 2, 2020 @ 9:00 am - May 10, 2020 @ 3:00 pm

City of Loveland Open Lands and Trails’ Earth Day Planting Project

[Local/In-Person Volunteer Opportunity]

This series of small service projects are set to occur Saturday May 2 to Sunday May 10, 2020; between 9:00am – 3:00pm each day.

The City of Loveland’s Open Lands & Trails program has preserved over 5,000 acres of open space in and around Loveland.  Starting in 1995, they have protected open space, natural areas, wildlife habitat, regional parks and trails.

Join them and Wildlands Restoration Volunteers on the Big Thompson River on the west side of Loveland for a celebration of (belated) Earth Day!  This will be a series of small 10-person planting events each day, where we’ll be observing physical distancing and other CDC guidelines. Read more about their COVID-19 planning and response.

This service project is at Medina’s Crossing Natural Area. Currently, the area is not open to the public.  Volunteers are needed to help plant native wetland and upland species for a habitat restoration project at Medina’s Crossing North. Activities will include planting willows and cottonwoods to restore the river corridor to a more natural and flood-resilient condition.

Volunteers should wear closed-toed shoes, long pants, and dress for the weather in layers. Bring a filled water bottle and your favorite work gloves (they’ll have some too). No experience necessary, all ages welcome! Lunch provided.
