Solo Volunteers

Solo volunteers are integral to CSUnity, as are our Volunteer teams.  SLiCE’s goal is to assign you (a solo volunteer not participating with a Volunteer Team) to a service project with other solo volunteers, either led by SLiCE or another on-campus department.  CSU faculty, staff, and students may all volunteer.  Participation is first-come, first-serve; if capacity is reached, you will be waitlisted and notified.  Transportation is not provided.

FYI: signing up and showing up are critical to the success of CSUnity.  Thus, please only register if you intend to follow through.  Thank you!

To participate in CSUnity, the following steps need to be handled in this order.

  1. Complete this “CSUnity Solo Volunteer Registration.”
  2. Once registration closes, SLiCE will email you your service project match, Volunteer Team Leader contact information, and final steps. This will occur sometimes between Wednesday, April 3 to Friday, April 5.
  3. Check your email/phone regularly and be responsive to you assigned Volunteer Team Leader’s communications up to the day of CSUnity.
  4. Be sure to submit your CSUnity Volunteer Waiver (sign in with your CSU eName and password to access the form) by Monday, April 15.
  5. On Sunday, April 21, 12PM – 4PM, enjoy CSUnity by positively impacting the local community!

Solo Volunteer Cancellation Policy

Every Solo Volunteer is responsible for knowing the following information.  Please read it thoroughly to understand what is expected of you as it relates to CSUnity.

Cancellation Between Submitting Registration Form & CSUnity

Once a Solo Volunteer submits this CSUnity Solo Volunteer Registration, they lock in their commitment to SIGN UP, SHOW UP, and ENGAGE in CSUnity.  Commitment to following through is critical to the success of this community engagement program and ensures ongoing good relations between CSU and local service providers/non-profits, as well as SLiCE and other campus departments.  PLEASE, do not submit a Registration Form if you are not committed to completing your assigned service project.  Otherwise, the following Cancellation Policy applies.

  1. If cancellation of participation must occur you are responsible for informing SLiCE’s Community Engagement Graduate Coordinator, Katlyn Murphy, via email or by phone (970-491-1653) with a proper explanation for the cancellation.
  2. You will be penalized and unable to participate in any future CSUnity until case-by-case reparations are made, which depend on the severity of the cancellation.
  3. If the cancellation occurs more than two weeks before the CSUnity (either on or before the registration form is due), a conversation with Katlyn will occur to address the consequences of canceling and CSUnity solo volunteering best practices.  SLiCE will need assurances that you will participate differently in the future before being allowed to participate in CSUnity again.
  4. If the cancellation occurs within two weeks of CSUnity (on or after the Saturday of the week registration is due), all of the above happens. Additionally, a formal apology will need to be issued to the Service Provider.
  5. If you do not show up to your assigned service project, all the above applies.
  6. If you arrive late to your service project, and inconvenience the Service Provider, all of the above applies.  Being timely and communicating any delays to your Service Provider is critical (as in, calling them before the service project begins), as well as notifying the SLiCE On-Call Support Line, as well.  A few minutes late is okay though not ideal nor professional, if longer than a reasonable amount of tardiness, the Cancellation Policy applies.  Please plan accordingly.
  7. If you leave early from your service project (earlier than what your assigned Service Provider is okay with and expects), all of the above applies.
  8. If cancellation seems likely – please do not delay informing SLiCE.  The more notice you provide us, the more likely we can bring in a waitlisted volunteer.
  9. If you are sick or have an emergency on the service day itself, we understand and ask you to notify the SLiCE On-Call Support Line immediately and your Service Provider.
Grounds for Dismissal & Cancellation

If SLiCE or your assigned Service Provider or Neighbor has difficulty communicating with you after multiple attempts in a reasonable amount of time, this is grounds for dismissal from participating in CSUnity.  This unresponsiveness is interpreted as a lack of commitment.  Depending on the severity of the issue, SLiCE may remove you from participating any further, and the Cancellation Policy above would apply.  Email and phone will be the communication methods, please ensure your email is checked closely and your voicemail box is set up and not full, to avoid dismissal.

Waitlisted Volunteers & Cancellation

Waitlisted volunteers are placed on the list in the order their Registration Form was received by SLiCE.  Any waitlisted volunteers are welcome to opt-out of CSUnity and will face no penalty from the Cancellation Policy.  This can occur at any time prior to being offered a service project and accepting to participate – which will remove you from the waitlist – and then activates the Cancellation Policy above.  Usually, most waitlisted volunteers are eventually assigned a service project.

Service Provider Cancels Service Project

If you receive a service project assignment via email from a SLiCE Community Support Specialist and your assigned Service Provider or Neighbor cancels before the service project, SLiCE will notify you immediately. You can either: (1) opt out of CSUnity with no penalty, or (2) transfer to another service project – if one remains.
