Frequently Asked Questions
Work study is a part-job opportunity. You are not paid to study; rather, you use your earnings to
pay for college related expenses There are two types of employment for students: Work-Study & Student Hourly.
- Work Study: financial aid awarded via the FAFSA or the Request Work-Study Application; types include “need-based” and “no-need” work-study. Part of a student’s wages earned through a work-study position are supplemented by state, federal or institutional funds.
- Student Hourly: campus hourly positions are available throughout campus and do not require a work-study award.
A typical work study award is $4000, but it can vary based on your financial aid package. This limit
is enough for a work-study employee earning $12.00 per hour to average around 10 hours a week
throughout the school year.

All On-campus positions are posted on Handshake once you’ve logged in you will want to select the Jobs tab located on the left-hand side of the webpage. Next to the search bar there are several pre-provided filters you can apply. Select All Filters, and under job type select On-Campus. This should narrow your options down to those available on-campus.
All on campus jobs will work around your class schedule. Over the years we have seen people have as little as five hour a week up to 25-30 hours a week. The number of hours worked depends on both the student’s availability and time frames when the employer needs staff. Ranges of 8-15 hours a week are common for new employees.
Depending on experience, and job duties pay ranges from $13.65 to $15.43.
