SUPERVISOR DEVELOPMENT, ELECTIVE (90 MINUTES) —

During this 1.5 hour training, members of the Basic Needs Collective will review recent data around Basic Needs Insecurities experienced students both nationally, and here at CSU.  We will discuss some of the factors contributing to this issue and will also outline the various programs and services offered across campus to address Basic Needs shortfalls.  Most of these services are available to ALL members of the CSU community (students, staff and faculty). We invite you to come in and learn/share with us around this important topic.

Increasing Your Capacity for Deep, Meaningful Work
(ELEVATE 408)

Presenter: Dr. Lindsay Mason, Off-Campus Life

SUPERVISOR DEVELOPMENT, ELECTIVE (90 Minutes) — This training will serve as a summary of the significant findings taken from Cal Newport’s collection of published books. The overall themes of the findings focus on practices employed for employees to train themselves for doing deep work, how one defines and plans for intentional rest, and how to reduce reliance on email. The training will include self-reflection exercises and partner/group work so the group’s expertise can be shared in the space as well. The training will provide concrete takeaways and possible inspiration to read/listen to Cal Newport’s work.

Receiving & Passing on Feedback
(ELEVATE 208)

Presenter: Emily Ambrose, LSC & SLiCE

STAFF DEVELOPMENT, ELECTIVE (90 Minutes) — Many trainings focus on how to “give” effective feedback; this training takes a different approach – focusing on how to receive feedback and if/when to pass it along to those with whom you work or whom you supervise. It is an extremely necessary skill to both receive feedback with grace and generosity, and effectively pass along the feedback and help those receiving it process it if needed. Come to this training to learn the nuances to these communicative skills.

Supporting Individuals Experiencing Crisis

Whether it be students we supervise, colleagues we work with, or patrons we serve through our work, many individuals are experiencing crisis in some aspect of life. This workshop intends to share resources and skills around engaging with those in crisis – acute or sustained. How do we show up for folks in the moment? How can we assist in accessing resources which may exist at CSU and in the Community? Come hear from experienced members of the social work profession on how to better navigate often sensitive situations.

ONBOARDING, REQUIREMENT (90 Minutes) — Onboarding new employees is a multifaceted process. Onboarding is not only a time to train someone on the day-to-day of their role but is the first opportunity to share the values and culture of your organization with new staff. Tangible takeaways from this training include understanding the importance of onboarding, involving multiple team members in the onboarding experience, and creating a structured onboarding process.

Supervisors have the ability to make these processes meaningful instead of daunting. This training will focus on your role as a supervisor and the influence you have on framing feedback as support for improvement on a regular basis and through performance evaluations.

This training will teach supervisors to navigate the Career Center’s Student Employee Development Toolkit which provides career competency-based tools for student employees. Supporting Survivors in a Work Setting

Survivors of interpersonal violence are present in every classroom, workplace, and community setting on our campus and in the community. While we know survivors are around us, we don’t always have the tools or skills to provide safe and supportive environments for them to work, build connections, and thrive. In this session, we’ll discuss models for creating and maintaining supportive workplaces for survivors of interpersonal violence, learn more about how to be trauma-informed, and begin to put these models into practice in our own spaces.

OFFBOARDING, REQUIREMENT (90 Minutes) — A meaningful student employee experience celebrates when students leave to pursue further career development opportunities. The offboarding process is an invaluable opportunity to “tie a bow” on a student’s on-campus employment. How do you create an offboarding process that leaves the door open for your relationship with students to continue? How can I create an offboarding process that is centered on employee development? This training will address these questions and outline a structured offboarding process (e.g., exit interviews/assessment, separation paperwork).

Inclusive Hiring Practices

Student Employment in a Hybrid Environment: Asana & LinkedIn Learning
(ELEVATE 205)

There are some WONDERFUL, accessible tools out there to assist in making your work environment better. Ways to increase your skills and help you achieve your goals. This two-part training focuses on two of these programs: The first half is dedicated to learning about ASANA – a project management system to use with your team to plan events, divvy out responsibilities, and stay on track. The second half is dedicated to learning about LinkedIn Learning – the learning management platform CSU employees and students have access to for professional development.

STAFF DEVELOPMENT, ELECTIVE (90 Minutes) — Effective training leads to learning. It promotes development, empowerment, delegation. To do it well takes intention. Come to this session to begin diving into creating effective trainings – and come prepared to practice! We will cover a variety of topics such as engaging returning staff / mid-year hires / and staff engagement.
