A display of transitional convergence of memory with the environment, documented by traditional printmaking techniques ECOTONE: noun. a region of transition between two biological communities. PEYTON FARNUM is a third-year studio art major at CSU with a concentration in printmaking. As a devout nature-lover and passion-driven artist, she discovered her affinity for traditional printmaking practice during her college career as she entered a period of self-reflection. For this show, Holly presents fiber and drawing based installations, assemblages and works on paper to reclaim the female body and bear witness to the spirit. These works range in size from intimate pieces to larger immersive works. Holly uses a variety of fabric and flexible drawing surfaces as her medium, applying the skills passed down to her from her mother, a talented seamstress. Holly’s work memorializes her mother whom she lost to alcoholism and domestic violence. The namesake work …
This exhibition title is derived from the famously referred to Salon des Refusés of 1863, which featured works submitted to the official Paris Salon then rejected by the jury. This Salon des Refusés is a display of selected works which were not accepted into this past year’s Student Art Exhibition held in the Curfman Gallery in the Lory Student Center. Multi-media artist Holly Wilson creates figures as her storytellers, conveying stories of the sacred and the precious, capturing moments of our day, vulnerabilities, and strengths. The stories are, at one time, both representations of family history and personal experiences. Wilson’s work reaches a broad audience allowing the viewer to see their own personal connection. Gabe Duggan and Jodi Stuart both explore ideas of digital & new media as well as virtual vs. physical spaces in their individual practices. This exhibition touches on these ideas translated into three dimensional artworks using both digital and handmade approaches, resulting in an exciting interplay of color, form, and imagery. The Annual Student Art Exhibition hosted by Colorado State University’s Curfman Gallery is the longest running recurring exhibition at CSU. The exhibition is open to all current Colorado State University students, both undergraduate and graduate, and serves to highlight the creative efforts of the student body. This year, 269 applications to the exhibition were received, more than ever before, and 44 pieces were chosen by the jurors. Isaiah Stewart‘s work is involved with historical imagery of plains Lakota people’s everyday life. His interests are always focused on the figure, and its relationship to the land.
